Introducing my new photo project called, “Why are you alive?”
A photo project that consists of asking people the question of, “if you had to choose life or death, why would you choose life?” Then taking a portrait of them.
The goal of this project is to create a bank of images and stories that may aid those who are depressed or on the brink of suicide to turn back. Whenever we try to aid those dealing with depression we do it anonymously. This project seeks to put a face to those trying to help through images and reasons from random people.
As morbid as the question is, it’s one we don’t face often and yet many people ask themselves why they’re still alive every day. Hopefully they’ll be able to visit any one of our social media sites and see the faces of many people who have found a reason to stay alive, perhaps one of those reasons/stories will resonate to the person needing help and aid them in thinking twice.
Depression is a serious matter and this project hopes to also bring it more to light.
This image is myself and the reason I choose to stay alive is because I believe there are still things I need to do on earth. Things that, whether true or not, will in some way affect other people and not just myself and if I were to leave it’d impact their lives and that to me, is not okay.
